Looking forward to 2024!

Now that Christmas is done and dusted, it’s time to take stock and make plans for the incoming year!

I’ve had a great blogging year during 2023 and in 2024 my main goal is to reduce the old 746 by another 50. Given that I read about 100 books a year, that means I need to ensure that every other book I read is from the TBR, which should be reasonable, but, as we all know, I am prone to distraction!

I hope to host Reading Ireland Month, 20 Books of Summer and Novellas in November again this year, so I’ll just have to do some careful planning and make sure I prioritise older books as part of those.

I’m also looking forward to taking part in challenges and reading prompts throughout the year. January kicks off with Japanese Literature Challenge 17 hosted by Meredith at Dolce Bellezza – a challenge I try to take part in every year.

Brona over at This Reading Life is hosting a Reading Orwell challenge for 2024, so that has given me the nudge to dust Keep the Aspidistra Flying off the shelves and read it in the early part of the year.

Looking forward to April, I’ll do my best to take part in Kaggsy and Simon’s 1937 Club and a quick check of the 746 has thrown up Theatre by William Somerset Maugham or Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie.

I am also very excited to launch A Year with John Banville in January, when I will once again be joining forces with Kim at Reading Matters to celebrate the work of another of Ireland’s finest writers. We will each be reading a different book every month – my reading kicks off in January with Birchwood (1973) while Kim will be reading The Secret Guests (2019). Keep an eye out for our reviews in early January.

Have you made any bookish resolutions for 2024 or are their any reading challenges you are particularly looking forward to next year?
